This morning our plan was to go into town to the clinic and get that 2nd Heptitas shot that we needed. Yesterday we had found a very nice medical facility in the Mall on the 7th floor...yes close to the Hyatt Hotel...most likely for foreigners. So we had that taken care of $28,- for a doctor's visit and the shot. Good price - compared to the $300,- back home...ouch!
Well we wandered around and Nick eyed this restaurant...oh my goodness you guys - so good!
....and delicious it was!
I know I know you Dutchies/Indo's are seeing it right...delicious!
With Sambal Oelek of course...we love the Hot stuff!!!! This on the left is corn with green onions -
We then decided to go to the American Embassy - to get some info regarding extended visa's, notifying them of our stay in Indonesia and also to ask about any concerns while traveling to any of the other island and last was need of a Typhoid shot? Yes all the questions were answered.
Only thing was that it was totally sealed/walled off and protected...guarded by Indonesian police. We did not speak to an American but had to wait outside the door...and a representative (Indonesian lady) came outside to ask our needs. We listed them and she went back inside and we waited about 20 min outside...no seats - and then she came out to share the info with us!
I am sure there is a need to be so protective - so much has happened with the embassies all over the world - but it was sad to not even be able to go in - yes without an appointment.
We walked over to the monument that represented Indonesia's Independence from Holland, Dated August 17, 1945...they use the date of the Bomb that fell in Japan as their liberating date.
We decided to go to the National Museum.
Interesting to see all the old history of this country!
This bike dates back to early early 1900's and it said the wealthy Dutch brought it.
An old bell from the Catholic church -
The old houses - that you still see in villages as you travel throughout Indonesia! Each group of people have their own unique style.
A Head dress from a Sultan & tribe.
Trying to remember - it was a old coin dating back to the colonial times. I think this is Queen Wilhelmina - !
We enjoyed strolling around in the museum...and seeing all the displays.
We decided to spoil ourselves with a cold drink at the Cafe Batavia one more time!!!!
To finish off our afternoon ..........and we so enjoyed sitting there again - after a long day and a whole lot of running around!
We looked at the menu and LO & BEHOLD they served the Dutch
"Bitterballen" and oh my goodness they were the best!
Wow what a treat - bitterballen in Jakarta...Yum!
I have been sitting here in the Lounge for the past 2 hours logging the blog and have been enjoying live music by the band. She sang "I left my heart in San Francisco" for us! And many other familiar tunes...so nice!
Nick has been chatting with "Chris" who is from England traveling through Java to Bali and then he will meet his brother and girlfriend in a month in Vietnam. We enjoyed sharing breakfast together!
And the other gentleman is Basar who is the manager here and is from Samosir Island and is Batak! He is very kind and helpful to all our needs here at the hotel!
It is 9:15 pm now and time to go upstairs ~
We have decided to stay 2 more days and plan to travel to Bandung on Monday.
Glad you two are having such a great time!!! We enjoy reading the blogs and feel like we are there traveling along with you. Talking to so many people, picking them up off the street, and taking everyone for coffee! The museum looked like a place that would be great to see, and the hotel was wonderful. Memories to last the rest of your lives. Love you both, Alan
