Gosh where do the days go to huh? I bet you too are saying that! And then already mid November - a few more days and Thanksgiving will be here - such a special season of the year!
It is good to contemplate and be thankful for family, health, our provisions, jobs, the friends we enjoy....yes we have much to be thankful for!
We did enjoy a good weekend! Saturday morning we woke up with the plan to go to Kawan Cafe to have a pancake breakfast which we did! We walked over there (we needed the excercize) and saw many familiar faces - how nice to see "familiar faces!" Yes! Elisha was working hard in the kitchen flipping those pancakes for all his guests who came! Beppie was welcoming all those that had received the txt message about the "special" breakfast! It was lots of fun! The weather was good all morning! There seemed to be a "Dutch" invasion too...coming for breakfast...I looked and counted 5 Dutchie's not including Nick & I...and we were talking up a storm! One couple said they had just received from Holland a package of goodies...all regarding Sinterklaas!
Oh my - that is so...in Holland on December 5th they will soon be celebrating the arrival of Sinterklaas from Spain with his 2 helpers! And the treats they always bring! So' good!

Well back home in Bend Oregon - The Dutch-American Club of Central Oregon too are busy getting things ready for their annual Sinterklaas Party and the Dutch-American children are looking forward to seeing St Nick arrive with his helpers too! Yes the Dutch St Nick - comes way over to Bend Oregon each year to bring the children there presents as well! Such fun! We will miss it this year!
After breakfast Nick & I walked back to the house and stopped along the way to check on the table that is being built for us by the carpenter close to the house! It is a simple table but will be most appreciated - it seems hard to find a 2nd hand store here in town.
In the afternoon our sweet neighbor Kasum came by to visit. She wanted to make lunch for us and bring it over on Sunday afternoon and also bring her daughter! Why Kasum how nice of you! Yes we love nasi goreng! And it was very good indeed! Nothing like the real stuff!!!! Her husband had made fresh sabal badjak and she brought that over too! We both really loved the fresh homemade styled (red pepper paste) Yum!
Kasum is very kind and patient too..she sat and visited with me and taught me some Indonesian words:
neighbor - tetangga (tay tahng ga)
white - putih (put ti)
blue - biru (beer ru)
orange - orans (oor runs)
hitam - black (he tum)
hijua - green (he j wau) j in Indonesia is like "juan"
no problem! - tidak masalah! (tea dah ma sa la)
cheese - keju (ka juu)
family - saudara (saw dau raw)
Are you learning along with me?
Kasum had also mentioned that on Sunday mornings starting at 6 am - 10 am there was a outdoor market about 2 km from here!
So we did just that this Sunday morning! We woke up and dressed and got on the scooter and went to see this market (pasar). There is a 4 lane highway to Semarang and just outside of Salatiga at this highway - yes there it was right along and on the highway! They vendors were on both sides of this 4 lane highway...which left a narrow one lane going each way! Big buses, cars and motorcycles had to drive very slow on this stretch of highway that was so busy with families, people selling and buying the goods offered! It seemed like the most natural thing - everyone strolling with their little ones - enjoying the Sunday morning market! We too enjoyed it and got lots of stares...we were the only "foreigners" tall - and we always get lots of smiles and looks! And we do a lot of smiling back!
We went home after that and got ready for church which starts at 10 am.
Then headed home again because Kasum and her daughter Intan would soon be coming over! It was a delicious meal and she spoiled us! I made a cucumber salad and some mixed fruit with lychee /rambutan fruit -
We enjoyed a special time meeting her daughter, Intan who is in the Christian University here in town studying to become a teacher she has 2 more years to go and hopes to teach 3rd grade.
....and by the way... Lunch was very good indeed! Nothing like the real stuff!!!! Kasum had also made this patty of tempeh with green onions, and egg! (so' good!) Her husband had made fresh sabal badjak and she brought that over too! We both really loved the fresh homemade styled (red pepper paste) Yum!
It began to rain - and has rained on and off all afternoon and evening. Late afternoon we received a txt message that Jessica, Aan and Albert wanted to swing by! "Sure Come on over!" Aan and Jessica had warmly welcomed us when we first came to the church and Albert too who is Dutch. (all in their early twenties!) We had a really nice visit together and we enjoyed chatting! Both Jessica and Aan speak English very well!
Well the evening has come to an end - it is time to go to bed!
No pictures this time!
You are doing a great job at the language!
