Wow - we had a great last day in town!
This morning we started out to check out the silver stores - in which Yogya is well known for it's Silver Industry!
The area was called the Kota Gede - a suburb of Yogyakarta.
We shopped a few stores but there was a whole lot of silver that was more older style of the past - brooch's, chains, and bracelets....and then I saw this little ring - which was cute and fit nicely with my wedding ring (it is gold colored) and the little silver ring had some gold color in it with a tiny stone - so I splurged with under $20- not bad huh? Something to remember Yogya with!
The sales girl was cute and helpful and patient with this shopper!
Then we went into town again to do some more sightseeing.
Weird looking statue...half tree half human....
The Bank of Indonesia - love the old style!
This was a museum - of the history of Indonesia taking the country back from the Dutch- Vredeburg was once a Dutch fort.
Later in the evening we came back - they were going to have some Indonesian dancing which we wanted to see and hear!
There was a coffee shop in the fort - and it was cute to see the name: written in Dutch - old spelling
"Indische Koffie"
We think this big room might once have been the mess hall -
Love the old light fixtures - !
For lunch we ordered our favorite juice - yes carrot juice "wortel" and look they even had a carrot slice on the rim - cute huh?! Been missing that carrot juice! ha!
Inside the Fort grounds were representative of the Island Floris - and they were bringing awareness of the island to Yogyakarta~ In the evening there was traditional dancing from the island - and oh....
oh...it was beautiful to watch and the dancing was so good...like a warrior dance!Bells on their legs - and all synchronized - with gamelan music - very special to see and hear!
...and then a man in white came to rescue them - it seemed....and the lion and the tiger overtaken!
Well it was a lovely day and we headed back to our hotel - to rest, pack and get ready for our trip to Salatiga in the morning!
Oh Yes we met a young lady on the bus - (asking for directions and she spoke English) she gave us her card - Ayren makes jewelry!
