So' very Special ~ It was August 20th 1989 - 24 years ago that Nick went back to Indonesia for the first time since leaving it with his mother and sister, Cecile, after the war in July of 1946.
How wonderful how the Lord works these things out and remembers our desires - yes today we too are heading to Indonesia!
We are ever so happy and thankful for God's provisions! Looking forward!
Nick was born in Palembang Sumatra and my father was born in Bandung Java. His father and my grandfather both died in the Japanese concentration camp and are both buried in the same military cemetery in Java close to Bandung! A Diemel and a Baidenmann. We are going to be going there and it will be the first time for Nick to see his fathers grave.
I too am ever so thankful to return to my father's family roots! I have been brought up hearing such special stories about Pappa's childhood and his love for his beloved Indonesia! How special to be able to finally go there and enjoy this together with Nick.
My father too was in the camps, and worked on the rails in Burma - but being a little bit younger he did come out alive!
Nick's father was born in Delft Holland and my mother was born in The Hague Holland both married someone in Indonesia which was then called Dutch East Indies ~ The Dutch had colonized Indonesia for over 300 years! So the men in those days did their duties in the Dutch military in Indonesia (Indies) and many fell in love with the island life!
