Sunday Church Service Battambang Church of Christ

Sunday Morning ~ 9:30 am

We looked forward to attending church this morning with Jerry & Wilma and Shari too!  It was held in a hotel here in town on the 2nd floor!  As we entered many greeted us and one another - lots of hugs and friendly faces!
It was great to see the Khmei people mixed with the westerners...all enjoying church together this morning!

It is good to be in the house of the Lord!  Two visiting pastors from Phnom Penh came to share the Word this morning.

The worship team sang so wonderful...both in Khmei and also in English...it was a blessing to experience it!  Yes such a joy to see what the Lord is doing here in Battambang!

We came home and had lunch, a nap and then took a drive through town giving us a good idea of the town & surroundings villages outside of Battambang itself.  What we have seen thus far has been by walking our either by tuk-tuk ...so it is great to have a tour and Jerry was an excellent tour operator...driving through little roads where he goes to minister - Nick & I just stand in awe of those two and all they have done, where they have been and what they do...AND in what circumstances!!!

I am sharing with you some scenes along the way OK?
(remember double click on the picture and it opens up to see the pictures enlarged)

As Jerry was driving Nick just clicked away on his camera...so these are scenes as we traveled the back roads of the outskirts of town.

as poor as the people are they do buy an alter to burn their incense and put food out to the "spirits" so the spirits are pacified.

The Sangke often spills over...with so much rain that drops in the rainy season.

The people were having some kind of party because a tent was rented and as we drove by the music was heard!

Bottles of gas sold  for the moto's coming by.

These 4 pictures are the school buildings still

in use 6 days of week - can you imagine how HOT it is in there?

Oh how our children should appreciate how good they have it at school!

..heading back into town.

Also, about the "moto's" that everyone is driving -the transportation has always been bikes...but lately maybe the last 4-5 yrs they have been able to purchase the scooters...can you imagine...getting around on bikes only?  And then those muddy roads and holes in the ground...I am thankful that the people can afford them now.

Getting back into the main town...you do see new buildings coming up - and Jerry tells us this has only been the last few years.

They are built up so tall...with ceilings very high...possibly to keep things cool inside.  Not a whole lot of re-enforced steel like re-bar.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@

After our drive - Jerry said "hey you want to go get a bite to eat...I know this place that has a real nice ambiance?  Well sure Jer...let's do it!

So we stopped in this alley way and they said this restaurant has been here for a long time (1954 and not destroyed by the Khmer Rouge) and it was always one of the places they enjoyed eating at from the beginning and the restaurant caters to the International clientele.

It was upstairs ....a nice deck - open and airy...

...overlooking the river.

Yes a nice Ambiance!

Jerry & Wilma chatted with the owner.

There across the river are some new homes.
We were surrounded by palm trees, ferns and banana scrubs...a very

pretty setting indeed you guys!

See the menu?

Dinner is brought to the table as soon as it is prepared so one might be eating while the other is still waiting for their order..so the fish & chips, Jer & Wilma's Fish & Chips came first.  We all agree that it is worth it because everything is freshly made and a microwave is not used to keep things warm...so we pray...
and we dig in!  eet smakelijk!

Yes it was a very nice setting and a good meal...Nick & I ordered Green Curry & Red Curry veggies with rice...tasty...yum!

We had worked up an appetite!

Later we played the game 10,000 and they so enjoyed that!

It was a great Sunday of rest & relaxation!

Good Night!

Pleasant Dreams!
