Departing Battambang Aug 12th - Heading to Bangkok

Last evening with the gang....we ate at our favorite restaurant ~ Gecko!
Shari, Carolyn and Yotcho also joined with us!

Monday morning ~ up at 5 am and the taxi came to pick us up at 6:30 am - off we went to Poipet the border of Cambodia/Thailand.  The trip went very well...our taxi driver was fast but a little bit more careful with oncoming traffic...it is amazing to us both how close it seems they get when passing another car and also how close the oncoming car is coming when our driver decides to pass the car in front of us...Oh my goodness Lord...so' thankful for Your covering!

Went through the border patrol...all went smoothly and before we knew it we were on the Thailand side!  The tuk-tuk Wilma had said would be there took us to the Bus Station.  My goodness 2 big suitcases 2 backpacks and two tall people - us! all into the tuk-tuk...and the driver just plugged away on it!

Then at the Bus Station - the bus was waiting and we booked the ticket quickly to be able to get on it! Next Bus out - 9:30 am departure!

Because we got on the bus first...we were able to grab the first & best seat...right behind the driver! There was leg room enough for us tall people and also our backpacks - suitcases were put into the luggage department.

We were able to see from our seats - for a 6 hr drive to Bangkok was a pleasant one!

Each Bus has an attendant too that checks tickets and lets people on and of the bus...
We arrived into Bangkok at 3:00 pm and took the taxi clear across town to our hotel which we had booked ahead!

Bangkok...what a BIG City!

After freshening up a bit and a little rest we went out later for a little stroll and a bit to eat!
Good ole' McDonald's in Bangkok too....of course!
Then we heard a little music outside old American classic's and we were drawn to it....yes...sounds so good to hear! Louis Armstrong - "What a Wonderful World"  We sang along...and Jim Reeves and also Nick's favorite "The Inkspots" "If I didn't Care" Jim Reeves "Welcome to My World" We did have a delicious Thai and the music serenaded us...ha!

Further down the road (because our hotel is pretty centered into the Business district) we came across....

...a night open market area...blocks of it!  So fun to nose around!
But beware...some of sales people are pretty aggressive - once you look at an item too seriously - well they really want to make a sale!  So many people...so many foreigner's traveling!  Bangkok - Thailand is being visited by many people!
