Day 10 ~ Morning Sunrise / An Awesome drive to discover the Peninsula

Nick & I decided we would wake up early and watch the Sunrise, which was around 6 am...Well I am game to go Nico...but lets see if we respond to the alarm.....ha!

Yes...5:30 am - we did it!  We dressed quickly - it was still dark outside...and walked down the alley to the beach - we had our flashlight with us for those alley walks!

We saw the beginning of a shimmer of light on the ocean!  We  waited and enjoyed the stillness & freshness of a NEW DAY and then little by little - it began to get lighter & then lighter still!  Oh how pretty!

The sky was purple...hard to see in this picture but a beautiful purple it was!

There it is Nick....it is coming up!

Wow... how bright the Sun is in the morning!
 Almost up all the way...

 Wow...what a sight....oh our Creator God does such marvelous work   E V E R Y D A Y !!!!!

I was glad for Nick encouragement to get up early this morning...way to go Nico!  After taking LOTS of pictures and just sitting and enjoying it - we headed back to the hotel to have breakfast...the Ibis serves a very nice buffet and it was already busy..even at 7 am...lots of guests!

We met Jim & Kate O'Connor from Perth, Australia...they were a very friendly couple & invited us to join them at the table how nice! They told us it is a 3.5 hrs flight from Perth to Bali and that they have enjoyed coming to Bali for several years already!
We could surely understand that!!

What do you have in mind today Nico?  Someone had told us about this little town called Uluwatu and that it was worth seeing!  We would see a temple there and also a place where there were surfers it brought a lot of surfers to this peninsula ...to surf at Uluwatu...OK! ..lets go to Uluwatu!!!

We packed some snacks and headed out...it would be around an hour on the bike.  We drove through some small towns and then came to the other side of the peninsula and there was the Temple
Temple - Click on this Link

It was on the edge of this outcropping...with a quite a view!
There was a sign by the entrance of the Temple - I received a sarong to wear...Uluwatu Temple
We walked into the Temple grounds and again there were many many monkeys everywhere...and they took advantage of their "guests" - glad I did not do the banana thing! No Way!

The views were amazing...and we were up so high!  Look at that water....so blue and so pretty down there!

We were only allowed to walk on the outskirts of the buildings - but the view was worth the entrance fee!  The monkeys also had a swimming pool to play in and it was cute to watch them dive into the pool...scrawny little guys when they are wet!

We got back on the motorbike and headed to the surfers!  We came to this place and it had a sign saying Uluwatu surf - pointing to some steps...so we parked the bike and headed down....way down....many many flights of stairs...and then we arrived at this place...along a ridge closer to the water below.  On this rock was built these little structures - a youth hostel for the surfers and also a few places to eat & and even some merchants selling their goods...oh my I said to Nick...will all these people have to bring all their goods, food for the restaurant, down these stairs????  I always seem to think of these things!

(So nice to wear tank-top & shorts - something you can do in Bali and not feel uncomfortable about)

There was this breeze...and it was just wonderful to sit there in this funky hangout for surfers and enjoy the view, the surfers below and watch the people - many different languages spoken all around us!

These ladies were braiding bracelets in many colors...and selling them -

Little corridors along the rocks up to another level of small houses built for tourists.

Very relaxed setting...!
Do you see the surfers?

This Lady came right up to our table and was determined to sell something to us...she plopped it on Nico's head...that is, after we had purchased some items from her...she was pleased with Nick and let him know so...we laughed ...and we were happy to help even with just a few items!  The bracelets were colorful and cute!

She actually knelled right there at our table and began to show us all the sarong's and bracelets she had to offer!

As you can see it wasn't very busy in Uluwatu - but between Jan-March it seems to be the low-season...but normally these places can be packed with people!
It was a great place to hang out and we did...just feeling the breeze - it was so' mild and helped too because it was at least 95+ out there....!

Oh what a treat it was to see this area...funky and fun...and a great place to hang out for an afternoon!  Worth every step of the way!!!
                          Literally!
Time to head back to the bike...Nico...up the stairs we go!  Wow - we worked-off our lunch!  As we wandered up the stairs and finally at the bike again...more vendors came to us - but Nick in particular!  They wanted to try to sell some more items to us!  Well finally - Nick - good ole' Nick...did buy a t-shirt - colorful...and a memory of a very cool area!  Bloody Bagus...the English use bloody like we use "cool" Bagus means pretty in behasa Indonesia!  Yes...well said!

We wanted to go on a little further and so we did...not  ready to head back just quite yet!   We found this GIGANTIC resort called Kapala Resort with this king size entrance - so' elaborate...there was lots of money being invested here!

We drove into the development - curious and nosy that we are...ha! We couldn't believe the signs/billboards on the left...large complexes of apartments, hotels, overlooking the private beach...this was going to be ONE enormous project in the working! This real estate agent was interested to know...ha!

This building is called "Infinity" it was a wedding chapel overlooking the ocean view...somebody is going to pay a whole lot of money to get married here!  My goodness!
They had shaved into the rocky hill, tiers & tiers of levels where the apartment complexes would be built on...we heard this project was being built by the son of President Suharto -

We headed out and down the road was this gorgeous tree and so I asked Nick to please  stop....
It is the same tree that Gerrit & Lis have on their picture frame on the wall in their living room...Gerrit & Lis what is the name of this tree - anyone know????
Oh Nick looked it up on the internet...."Flamboyant Tree" - or "Poinciana"
Do any of you out there recognize it?  What a gorgeous tree!  We think we might of seen it in Hawaii too....
Beautiful ferns and the color....oh so' vibrant!
Nick is cooking out there while I am into admiring a TREE!!!!  Oh my, better get back on that bike...sorry Vent!

Time to go back to the room and take a coooooool shower..!!!

Relax for a few hours and then decided to take another long walk along the beach!

Just in time to see the Sun drop again! The beach had a really nice walkway all along it from hotel to hotel...so we did a good 40 min walk and headed towards the next town...love the warm air and breeze &  it was a quiet evening!  Then on the way back we spotted this cute little pavilion surrounded by a beautiful garden overlooking the ocean.  The pavilion was called Paon Doeloe -"Traditional Indonesian Recipes"  sounds great said Nick...let's go!  So we sat down at a table facing the ocean...in the park-like gardens there were old becak's parked here and there...what a cute idea!  They must of brought those in from Yogjakarta we thought!

Such a pretty garden and well-manicured...we did not see a hotel and wondered about that?

The owner was from Jakarta and he wanted a place for people to come and entertain, have lunches or nice dinners or have conferences here...that is what he built this place for!
The dining area was lovely!  Such warm & inviting atmosphere!  Don't you agree?
Cozy sitting areas under this pavilion and then the curtains would give each little sitting area some privacy if needed.

Dinner?  What shall it be?  Nasi Goreng Special with Gado-Gado....oh how we can't seem to get enough of that! But so'  healthy and delicious!
OK pose by the wood container - these we were told was used by the native people to grind their seeds in!
The colors changed as the Sun went down....

They smaller pavilion was right on the beach edge...quite a view if you were to eat at this table....and again they have the curtains to give a little privacy...how sweet is that?  and Romantic!!!

Yudiana brought us each a nice cold towel with a sweet smelling flower...to wipe our hands and maybe even your face..if it had been very hot....

...such a special & extra attentive thing to offer for your guests!

Our hostess took some pictures of us...how nice to offer! Thank You Yudiani!
She did a wonderful job of serving us and providing anything we needed!  Compliments to her!

The place to eat when in Nusa Dua!  Delicious!
                           Enak Sekali!

Yep it was that time again - time to head back to the hotel...we had been up a while from Sunrise to Sunset...it had been a great day!  W o n d e r f u l ...once again in Bali!
As we strolled back to the alleyway...to the hotel...we saw these guys on the beach painting their boat! Yes it WAS low tide...and so they used the opportunity to paint the boat....they worked all night because the next late morning we walked by again and the boat was finished with the new paint on it - really cute!
Ibis was lighted up so pretty as we headed back inside.  Everything is ALWAYS open...so different then what we are accustomed to!  Nice huh a open Lobby like that!

Straight across the street from the Ibis there are building a new Hilton Hotel...it looks like it will be very nice and pricey too...but of course it is directly on the beach too!
