It began to get cloudy as we drove away from the coastline...going higher in elevation....
Our driver parked the car and pointed us toward a pathway...to take it to the waterfall! We paid a small fee...this area also had a volcanic mountain...Gunung Mt - Rinjani 3726 meter (X3=close to 10,000 ft)
So we started down the path...and it was steps....steps and more steps...going DOWN DOWN DOWN way down into this canyon! Oh my Nico....what goes down must go up! We will have a long climb up again...when we return from seeing that waterfall???!!!!!
Along the way was a few rest stops...a little hut that you could sit on...well not a bad idea because guess what????
It began to rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like hard!
We had passed this couple (on the way down and said Hello!) and when they came to the hut too joined us under the covering!
Meet Peter & Isabelle from Switzerland!!! They were so sweet and so much fun! Yes they were on a 2 week trip to Indonesia - and we started chatting - and found out they have been in the States too!
Peter & Isabelle are Harley-Davidson riders -own their own bikes back in Zurich Switzerland and had also come to Las Vegas - rented some Harley's and enjoyed a great trip along the coast and even up toward Canada...can you believe that....how sporty and fun huh? And you weren't afraid to ride in the States on those BIG freeways? You are amazing! No they said...we enjoyed back roads too and saw some beautiful sights that way!
Nick & I enjoyed our time chatting with them and what fun to meet them and we exchanged addresses with them...Nick & I were invited to come to Zurich if we come that direction...how very kind of them!!!! I asked Isabelle to send a picture of them on the Harley's and she did!!!
Just look at these very cool people...ha!
Oh by the way...
in the corner of this little hut was something hanging...and I looked and looked again...oh my it was a bra! YES! Oh my! What a chuckle...you experience the most interesting things walking deep down into canyons...yes?!
Wow a pretty sight but the rain was coming down and the pictures weren't that clear.
So our new friends Peter & Isabelle took a picture of us.......
....and we took a picture for them as well!
All right....way to go you guys!!!!!!
Auf Wiedersehen Peter & Isabelle..so nice to meet you both..on the stairway..down to the canyon....if we travel outside of Holland...we will surely come and say Hello! to you in Zurich, Switzerland this Summer! We had a very very long climb ahead of us...so off we went...up up up the stairway again back to our driver! Man oh Man...what a climb....but we did it! Good exercise huh Nick?
When we got to the top again...it rained really hard...so we got undercover and decided to have lunch there in the warung with our driver "Putet" (meaning 4th child).
Looking down towards the coast...we could see in the distance the weather was much better down there!
But we were glad to take a break and have a light lunch and others too were staying under cover from the hard rain.
On the way down the mountain we came across this "store on wheels" cute huh?
We also experienced a wedding parade- the bride was all dressed up walking with her family to the bridegroom down the road....I will add the picture later.
We headed back to Senggigi Beach with Putet our driver and he dropped us off at our hotel. Took a shower & relaxed on our deck - I journalled and Nick watched a little TV till early evening.
It was our last evening on the Lombok island and so we decided to spoil ourselves a little with dinner (hmmmm we are constantly spoiling...ha!) Right across the street from our hotel was the Sheraton Senggigi Beach Resort and it had a lovely dining area right close to the beach - and it was so' pretty there....we both decided to have our meal there but it did seem a bit expensive to eat there? Shall we look at their menu first?
We strolled on the beach and saw this darling table set with a BIG heart around it...all lite up with candles.....
How cute is this for a newlywed couple coming to Lombok huh? Pretty special to sit there and be served and have special time right by the beach and hear the waves so close by?
(notice the purple in the sky?)
The hotel was extra special with quite an atmosphere all around it...can you tell????
We wandered into the restaurant area and they had this beautiful pool close to the beach and then tables all along the pool area...and a band stage right there in the middle of the pool - to get to it the muscians had to walk over a little bridge...!
We did look over the menu and we were delightfully surprised...it was very reasonable for having all "atmosphere" around you! We both agreed we wanted to eat there this evening for our last evening on Lombok..
And oh my...was it ever good! Our favorite - but brought in such a decorative & tasteful way....sate' chicken, nasi goreng and also gado-gado!
The Gado-Gado steamed vegetables with the peanut sauce on the side....but very attractively done!
Wow - what a special evening we had...great music, a lovely dinner, my best buddy right beside me ....the waves so close by...a pleasant breeze...a wonderful memory we had made again! Oh my! Could not have been anymore perfect then this!
This tree had wrapped around it this palm tree branch - do you see it...what an idea huh Nick...to even think about doing this? It sure looked nice though!
Yes our last evening/day on Lombok ended & we will head back to Bali tomorrow with wonderful memories of this very special island.
The band players made the guests feel welcomed and made little chats with the guests...and even sang "Happy Birthday" for a special person in my life! Yes it was Mom's 92nd Birthday in the Bay Area and she was remembered here in Lombok Indonesia! And Jim too!!!!!
