at the pool/pavilion and then checked out of the hotel & headed towards the beach! The fast boat would be departing at 9 am from the dock pretty close by. The guys at the gate took our picture for us...the backpackers were heading out again!
This Express boat take us back to Padangbai the little town on the coast of Bali. We had booked the return as well but we had an "open ticket" so by going down a little earlier we hoped to be able to catch the first boat out at 9 am...if not then we would have to wait till 10:30 am again.
Then upon arrival back at the dock in Padangbai the shuttle bus which was also a round trip open ended ticket would bring us back to Sunar where we had originated from.
We did decide that we would spend a few days in Ubud - having visited the Monkey Forrest and seeing the streets there - we both felt it would be fun to stay a few days and also try that bike ride we had inquired about!
So the plan was - take the shuttle back to Ubud and then find another bus to bring us up to Ubud.
Well things worked our to our favor....PTL!
As we headed down to the dock - thankfully there was not a big crowd wanting to catch this boat back....YES! we were able to get on this 9 am one! Yeah Nick! We departed nicely at 9 am and raced directly to Bali - and was there in 1:10 min...Wow good timing! I guess the 2 islands we had gone to first on the trip to Lombok took some time! We were on a return ride now!
Cute Indonesian fishing boats out there with such pretty sails!
Those were the ones we had photographed on the beach!
There was a guy holding up a card with the boat company's name on it letting us know that he was the guy who would be directing us to the shuttle bus waiting to take people back. A group of us followed him to the bus and he asked where we were going...Sanur and then Ubud...fine he said!!!
What? Fine? Does that mean he will take us up to Ubud another hour away???? Oh my Nick...would that be ever cool!!!!!!!
We met 2 girls on the bus....cute...German gals traveling together! Lisa and Theresa were traveling Indonesia for 40 days and were having a great time! They gave us a recommendation where to stay in Ubud...because they had recently visited there too....
...oh My...what is the name of the place? Wenara Bali homestay? Yes they said...very reasonable and it was right off the main street where the shops were and it had a pool and a cute veranda and breakfast was included....AND they even gave us a brochure on the little homestay!!!!!! Oh my what a blessing from the Lord! We had nothing booked ahead for Ubud...so this was w o n d e r f u l !
They also mentioned another place Nusa Dua - closer to the airport and a place that had a great beach! Wow again! OK - Nico - we have a place in Ubud - (if there is a room available-that is) and maybe something for when we come back this direction before departure back to Java! Hey ......!
Lisa & Theresa got off the bus in Sanur - we had had a great time talking on the bus that hour....we just love to hear the stories of their travels and their adventures! Polly you can so relate huh???!!!!
The bus driver headed to Ubud...no questions asked...and Nick & I didn't offer any either!!!! We drove the road we had traveled with the hired driver a week ago and when he turned into the familiar street he dropped us off right there in front of Wenara Bali bungalows - we were most pleased! Gosh Nick...so good huh?
We followed this big touring bus with penguins all the way up to Ubud...PENGUINS IN INDONESIA? | Say What? |
We thanked the driver for the ride and gave a good tip...went down a little alley to the homestay there...and YES!!!!! no problem - they had openings...either a room with a fan or with AC? We will take the ceiling fan...$27.- for us one evening! Perfect! We did have to move from one room to another the next evening...to stay in the same price range...no problem...we only have a backpack to move!
We were brought up some stairs and found this adorable & cozy room - very very simple this time...but that was fine with us after Lombok...we had a cute balcony, a shower over an old tub, one bed and one cabinet and one night stand....hey this will work! It was cute but simple & practical...plus the young traveling girls of course
The cute carved & painted doors were latched with a padlock lock - interesting! |
were on a budget - and they described it just like it was! Clean and simple! And there was even a pool! Cute huh? See the little hut there below?
We had traveled from 9 am to 1 pm here in Ubud...4 hours total and now we can relax and find a place to have some coffee and maybe some lunch!
We came along this Pavilion on the busy shopping street...called Tropical View Cafe and wondered what that might be....we had to climb up the steps to find out and oh my look at this - you sure wouldn't know there was this gorgeous sight overlooking a rice field...oh so' pretty!
We were glad we read the sign and went up those steps!
Nick & I enjoyed a relaxing lunch with a nice view overlooking all this greenery! Dark lush green...so very pretty!
A nice way to relax after a busy morning! Nico...lookie here!
We finished lunch & went to find that little travel-tour stand where I had received this card from this guy telling me to call him "if" we were interested in that cycling tour..his named "Meggy" and thankfully I had kept his card from our previous visit to the town almost a week ago! Meggy (SEE MEG I am thinking of you way over here in Bali!!!) was there and yes the price was the same...and yes he could book it for us for tomorrow morning! We had heard others rave about this particular company - it was a person from Australia that had started this 12 yrs ago here in Ubud and he had organized the whole bike trip with breakfast/lunch included and some interesting attractions to see on the way!
We headed back to the homestay to relax a bit - and then we received some visitors!!!! Oh my on the deck while we were sitting there having a snack and a cold drink...there on the porch beside us was this GRAY thing? A cat? Nick? What is that??? Oh my it is a monkey! I shot up from my chair and he climbed up into it...wanting to grab the snacks from the table...but he had two other buddies with him too! They too were "eyeing" the snack! Oh - I must of spoke a bit too loud because the guys from the open office down below..hurried up with a sling shot!!! Yes that is how they keep the monkeys out - well the monkey showed his teeth...and oh my not too friendly either! He then raced up on the roof top and the others followed right behind! Nick & I just stared in awe! The Monkey Forest is just down the road a little ways...and it might of been walled around the Temple but not walled to keep the monkeys from swinging on the trees everywhere outside of the walled area...ha! Look- I got some pictures of our visitors...running away without the snacks!
YES....we're on for tomorrow at 7:30 am! They will pick us up at the homestay and the whole day was planned out & then they would bring us back to the hotel again! Wow! What a treat! Oh both Nick & I were excited about is! Yippeeee!
Riding a bike down from a volcano through the rice patties and villages etc! Coffee plantation? It sounds so fun! Nick & I had once wanted to do something similar in Maui (over 12 yrs ago & a little younger too ha!) but it was expensive then! And this was so reasonable...what a blessing AGAIN!!!
Anyway... our adventure continues...we ONLY have tomorrow to do it because the next day we would be heading back down to the coast.
We did some errands and then had a light snack...but oh my somehow we both had an upset stomach - did we eat something wrong and then where? Did we drink some wrong water? Water from the tap? or was there a meal prepared with tap water? We made several visits to the kamer kecil "small room" the whole evening and a bit into the night...oh oh...tomorrow a bike ride?????
