Langkawi Island ~ Malaysia

Thursday morning 6:30 am Malaysian time ~ (we are 15 hrs ahead of  you -west coast USA and 6 hrs ahead for Holland) The taxi we ordered the evening before did not come and at 6:50 am we checked again with the front desk and they said they would call another taxi..oh well! As long as we would get to the ferry terminal at 7:45 as was requested. So off we went and it was pouring rain...cats & dogs...we arrived there on time and walked to the terminal a short way and was drenched - like everyone else.

It was a little rough out there as we boarded the boat.

We meant a really nice couple Bruce & Linda from Austin, Texas. Bruce is a helicopter pilot taking people from the mainland to the oil rig plate forms. He was not ready to retire yet..and wanted to take on this overseas job for a few years.
Well we all board the boat..it held 168 passengers. As we sped off around 8:30 and entered into the ocean of the coast of Malaysia heading north to Langkawi the weather really took a change for the worst.  Oh my goodness gracious...we all rolled up and down, sideways back & forth....oh it didn't stop...it went on for all 3 hours.  The attendants passed out plastic bags and no one could even walk! Oh and how we all used the "bags" it was quite a trip...my oh my dear friends...how thankful we were to hit solid ground again.
We rested in the terminal and got ourselves a coffee...and a light snack...everyone that got off that boat had white faces...!

Well the evening news confirmed - that in Aceh Indonesia just west of Malaysia there had been an earthquake of 6.1 and we think that might of made the sea rough today!

I had bought some "wet ones" at the Walmart in Bend for our trip...and happened to have them in my back pack and passed them around to our surrounding passengers...they had something to keep them from getting sick.  Thankful ~

Here we are at JOY Motel..clean & small...king size bed with bathroom: shower, sink & toilet in the room.  We climb in bed and have enough room for our suitcases.

Took a much needed nap when we got to the motel...and then freshened up and got a bite to eat.  We are in the town of Kuah and will stay here 2 nites and this evening  Nick has booked a room in Cenang the main town on the island.

Time to hit the sack...oh sleeping on solid ground...I am still rocking you guys!

Question: do we take a ferry in a few days or fly out of Langkawi...what will the decision be?

To be continued this saga......ha!
