Wednesday July 9th Our first Full Day on Koh Samui Island...and Liking it!

Wow...a good night's rest does a whole lot! We were ready for our first day here on the island...woke up and dressed to go have breakfast on the veranda by the pool and beach~
Walking through the little walkways to the beach area....

Just look you guys - they planted this flower in a coconut shell!

Look here - see this bamboo stick..on the top they but an orchid on it...it just
grows..I see such beauty all around me...LORD.... You are amazing!
So' many beautiful colors...such' beauty - such creativity! Loving it!

The larger bungalow's go for $70,- not that much bigger though

The pool first then the covered dining area to the right -

......Nick is making a "B-line " straight to it!

We have so' much to choose from...and all so nicely done..and the sweet Thai servers so' spoil us!

  • ....you say "sa-was-dee krup"(to a male)
    "sa-was-dee kaa" (to a female)
Good Morning sir! Good Morning Ma'am!

To say Thank you... khob-kun-Kaa (lady)
...krup (man)...they so' appreciate your efforts and have big smiles! And they put their hands together in prayer-like manner and bow and say it back...khob-kun-kaa..so' sweet!

Jim - I am talking to you at this moment...on Magic Jack (thank you John Melton for sharing this marvelous phone jack with us through the Internet) it is amazing - our land line number in Bend...541 330-5913 is used to call you - no charge at all but for the original purchase of $85,- and it is as if we are talking right there in the same town!
Jim & I got all caught up with everything..Mom is thankfully doing much better since her hospital episode...but it took a good 2 weeks - we are grateful she is not so' lethargic anymore!

Talked to Mar...gosh what a wonderful connection..amazing! I was calling from the front lobby...and the hotel attendant saw me speaking into this regular phone by way of the computer and couldn't understand it...so he came over to ask Nick about it...yes free call once we purchased the Magic Jack! He was very interested to hear about! Pretty cool huh! Yes we have to lug around that crazy "Princess" phone....but well worth the effort!! Anyway hope to call you too- through the upcoming year ~

Scenes from the beach....

Yes the ladies along the beach encourage you over for a massage...here is the list... "double click" on the pictures and you can read it! Remember to divide the Baht amount by 30!

In the evening we took a nice stroll and wanted to get some snacks for the room...love their little banana's and the apples.

There is the sign of the motel/hotel we are staying at!
As we walked along the road...we saw this sweet Golden Retriever...and he was huffing & puffing - so hot with his long hair. You should have a hair cut - he was sitting on this table top while the owner was inside her tiny house.

Oh yes another chuckle to share with you ~ while we were walking along the stores & shops last evening...I see a small pharmacy across the street - and inside I see a lady on the floor...I am thinking - first thought..."oh...someone fell in the store...we need to go help"...and then 2 second's later my mind turns back to Asia...dah Ellen she is hunched down (like Nick can sit {djong-ko}) and I am seeing it all wrong...gosh I have to chuckle at this western girl- I am not use to the ways here! ha!

I am so' western-minded is what I mean to say!

When we had left the room - Nick saw a umbrella in the corner...and he was ever so smart to take it along...for we had an torrential- tropical down pour on our long walk! Wow it began to rain and then it began to pour and it did not stop...it came down hard! We laughed..as we stood there snug under that umbrella....dah...now what do we do..it was amazing - rained so' hard!!! We saw a undercover out-door restaurant - and ...YES! ...IT "IS" TIME FOR DINNER RIGHT NICK? Right?!!!!  We walked across the street ...loads of water everywhere..we were pretty damp - but not cold at all! .....Ahhhh..cover!

We ordered a most delicious dinner...fried rice, mixed vegetables and a friend egg...with all the wonderful Thai flavors - of course! Yum! 210 Baht - $7.00 - gosh I sure can handle these prices! Don't mean to always talk about money friends and family...but just want to share with you these amazing prices compared to the States and Holland too! No wonder people come from everywhere to enjoy vacation here!

So many people ran under cover and so many of us enjoyed the meal and the rain all around us! How fun to experience this! Yep...my hair is "natural" I am going with it! Wild woman Ellen...ha! Doing the wild thing! So glad I cut it short...shorter then I have had it ~ but so easy here!

We had a serious conversation together ~ were we gonna call for a taxi...or take the challenge...and walk back to the bungalow? YES ...the challenge of course! We snuggled together walking in pace together...and walked through many puddles, pools of water, mud, sand, on the curbs - gutters...and under signs (we are tall here so the sign's are lower) and we did it! Back to the room..and hung up the clothes!

I made some coffee in the room and Nick did some email's and went to sleep a lot earlier 10:00 pm...can you believe it?

Woke up at 2:30 am to take this picture of our courtyard...so' cute huh?
Here's a picture of our little retreat! Tucked in this little corner - nice and private ....

 A king bed / AC above ~
Little frig, TV with many choices both in Thai, German  even FOX news..Yeah!   I brought in the little table  from the porch...perfect for the laptop to do my blogging and down loading of pictures! Email's and doing research for our days ahead where to go!
The bathroom has a simple tiled sink, and a separate shower stall that is actually a add-on into the side yard... wonderful to take a shower in this enclosure which is kind of open with a clear plastic panel cover roofing on it...you hear all the sounds...the gecko's (they make a really weird "tokeh" sound! Nick says that is what they are called them in  Indonesia...I finally heard this gecko and it is a really different sound I have not heard before! So cute! And the little birds out there... "chirping" all together new sounds!
Oh we have a mother cat and her little ones following her on the wall right outside the window...Polly?!!!

************************************

It is a new day...July 10th Thursday already...and we have a lazy day ahead of us still! Might go to see the next town "the happening town" where most of the younger generation goes to! Want to check it out...we plan to take the open pickup truck ride they have everywhere...different again!

Tomorrow Ellen & Nick plan to zip-line "SKY FOX" ...a Super ride it says on the brochure! Yes we are most anxious to do that...well...maybe me more...but Nick said he is game to do it too...you are way cool Nico! The brochure says it will pick you up here at the hotel 8:30 am 600 meters of action 6 lines. Can't wait! Have wanted to do that......f o r e v e r!
