So lets go have some breakfast...have a relaxed morning and then we can head over to the train station to find out about the trip to Vienna!
Nick has picked up another sinus infection and it seems to be lingering on...which is no fun...because it causes a head ache and also a whole lot of draining continually. Hoping he will have some relief soon because it drains him too!
We rested and I blogged - and then towards the afternoon we went to to the train station and stood in line. Yes there is a train to Vienna from Venice...leaving twice a day...yes one at 4 pm tomorrow...and arriving in Vienna at 11:30 pm! Oh that is perfect...7.5 hours and we will enjoy day light so we can see the ride through the Alps! Wow exciting!
Nick has not been in Austria for he spent his time with sis & mom in Switzerland...so he was happy to go see it as well! I have always wanted to see Salzburg and Vienna...so much culture there...and beautiful music too!
We had success with that and again - we were so pleased it went so well! Yeah!!! So we enjoyed the rest of the afternoon...doing some more walking around and seeing sights and Nick took some extra naps which he really needed ~
We love to sit somewhere and just watch what is going on here and there! Contractors are doing some work on a building...and getting off the boat with their tools & and the work they will be doing...everything is done by boats!
While having breakfast we watched this boat pass with loads of suitcases on it...most likely a tour group just arrived from the airport & the group is being brought to the hotel somewhere on these islands...and the suitcases too have to come right?
Here is a picture of the train station from the opposite side ...see the steps we walked down and the view we saw coming out of the station????
Here is a very low corridor...you think you are going to a tiny courtyard somewhere BUT no...it is only a corridor to get from one place to the other...and this alleyway can bring you still to a bigger area or other part of these islands!
We took it easy and - found this little resto along one of these narrow walkways..and decided to stop for a snack! The family owned shop was so neat...old and quaint and pictures of the families through the years!
Upstairs in the room we heard an accordion being played and there he was serenading someone!
It had rained for about 2 hours in the afternoon...and all the umbrella's and raincoats It had rained for about 2 hours in the afternoon...and all the umbrella's and raincoats c It had rained for about 2 hours in the afternoon...and all the umbrella's and raincoats It had rained for about 2 hours in the afternoon...and all the umbrella's and raincoats came out....came out.ame out....came out....
Hey....good lookin'!
Nick & I waited for the departing train that would leave at 4pm - so we walked around for our last afternoon in Venice...taking it all in ~ What a special place to come & visit...and you really need a whole week to see it all!!!
Wash Day in Venice...cute sight huh?!!!
We waited for a little bit more in the hotel lobby and then walked over to the train station at 3 pm...the train would leave at 4!
There we go...with our bundles ....
Good bye Venice...we so enjoyed it - you are a beautiful city...and so very unique! Wow 3 days went by fast....I remember this shot when we first walked out of the train station...what a sight to see!!!!
Off we went...back over the water from Venice and back to the suburbs of Venice and then north to the Italian border.
As we got closer to the Italian border it became hilly & green - oh such a pretty sight!
Then mo
The scenery was gorgeous...rugged mountains in the background. The beginning of the Alps ~
Nick & I were very comfortable in this Italian train! We did sit with another couple Richard & his wife Elisabeth both from Hungry but lived in Vienna. They were very friendly and Richard could speak English well...he had worked in the States for a while and traveled much for business.
Lots of pine trees...a wonderful & familiar sight!
Across from us was a family traveling from Seattle WA - Pat & Tanya and their son Riley! They were enjoying their ride from Venice to Vienna with a nice glass of wine - wow Smart!
We stopped at the border and the engineer replaced the Italian one. Everyone had a chance to come out on the platform to have their smoke!
On board was also a coffee & snack cart and "Martin" took good car of us!
Jas & Milou introduced me to this little liquor - very nice Jagermeister! Very nice with a good strong cup of coffee!
We were blessed with a beautiful rainbow...coming into Austria! Thank you Lord!
The Lake that both Richard & Elisabeth enjoy and visit during the summer holiday!
It was just gorgeous!
These pictures are taken as we travel a speed of about 120 km - so not too great but worth sharing with you! Is that a castle up there???? Richard said yes...there are many castles in Austria!
Lovely huh?
Oh look...there is another one....Wow! Look at that road leading up to it...built way up on the top...good protection in those days of the past!
Here come Martin again...taking good care of us on the train! And Richard & Elisabeth laughed because we asked Martin "where is Henry was??????"
So lush and green and such darling churches with those steeples!
After a while we all ended up snooozing....the rocking of the train puts you to sleep...well kind of!
At 11:30 pm we arrived in Vienna!!!! Right on time! A beautiful train station!
We have arrived...we said our good bye to our passengers and off we went looking for a taxi to get us to Hotel Mercure...which was supposedly by the train station....JUST NOT THE ONE WE ARRIVED ON FROM VENICE. But the Westbahn Station was about a 20 minute ride.....no problem! We hit the sack pretty quick after checking in!
