Thursday ~ Agistri Island

We have two more days here...last evening we watched "together" with Jason in Holland the Dutch soccer team playing against Argentina!  For us it would start at 11:00 pm and for Jas & Milou it would be 10:00 pm 1 hour sooner!  I drank some strong coffee to stay awake! ha!

The game was surprisingly different..both teams were steady and good...and they never did score...it stayed 0-0 - oh my!  Then the penalty kicks  with the two goalies - and oh my...what a great loss for Holland and a great gain for Argentina!  UGH!!!!  4/3 they won on the penalty kicks!

Jas was pretty bummed out over there in Holland......Holland has never won the World Cup but always gets so' VERY close!  Oh Holland...you almost had it!  You are a good strong team...NEXT TIME!

We had breakfast and then came down to the coffee shop again to finish logging the Blog and update everything!  So that is done!  YEAH!!!!   Oom Paul & Janet were pleased to see the updates he said in a email!!! So glad to do it Oom Paul...we send you our love!!!

Today we have to made some decisions regarding our continuous trip & plans:

....we have decided to go visit one more island so not to travel on the weekend....which is usually busier with local people also enjoying some family activities!

So we will stay at the bigger island Aegina   Aegina Greece See Link! (the previous island we first stopped at when we came here to Agistri) We decided we did want to see one other island and this way we are a little closer to Piraeus where we have to take the Subway back to Athens and the airport outside of Athens.

We had actually have done some homework and found out the "so called" Ferry boat to Italy will take is 14 hours to cross over the waters of the Adriatic Sea to Bari from Patra...and even Patra is still a ways here from Piraeus.

We thought we could rent a bunk room on the boat across but that seems to be pricey! And then once we get into Bari, Italy it is still quite a ways north to Rome where are plan is to go!  So with all this gathering of information we decided to  just to fly out of Athens to Rome instead!  And far more reasonable to do so!!!

Oh well the boat travel (like St Paul - is not going to happen I guess!) It seemed so nice to do!  But truly didn't realized it would take 14 hours to cross the water to Italy!!! It all looks fairly small on the maps in the travel book you know!

The flight out of Athens airport is around 12 noon - so we have all morning to leave the island...ferry back to the pier of Piraeus..walk over to the Subway station (which is really close by the pier) and then we have only one change/connection on the Subway...and that is all easy stuff!  We hope we have room 1.5 hr to stand in line at the airport do our check in and board the flight!

So with all that arranged now - we can enjoy our last day on this island!

Yesterday afternoon we rented a scooter
a 2 stroke 50cc which was like a little noisy putt-putt
compared to what we had driven in Indonesia...those were 125cc!  But still it got us around the island yesterday afternoon...and felt so good the breeze on the bike!

The island is small - so within an hour

we were on the other side of it...yes lots of smaller pines..on the island...and the smell was nice...and familiar from back home in Oregon!
The land is dry..with lots of hilly rocks!  Such beautiful views as we drove around the island~ Wow!

Our town where we are staying is called Skala..and then we rode to the very next little town that had a harbor & pier

with sail boats called Megalochori (cute name huh?)

We then passed through headed to Limenaria down to Mariza (just a little cove) Do you see the tent on this rock below...a nice & private place to stay for a weekend huh?

On to the next little town called  Aponisos- oh gosh Nick - look how cute this setting is???  Love these ole' quaint places!

which had a  and a smaller harbor but a darling place to drop
anchor the boat ~ people were enjoying the surroundings!  Nice!

There was a peninsula there to sit at with lounge chairs...and then one restaurant - which was a delight to sit at and just lounge and relax and look out all around us!

Wow - so nice!  After the hot ride...we decided on a cold beer and a snack of french fries with sour creme dip with onions & garlic...quite tasty with the COLD beer!

We sat for quite a while..just enjoying the breeze and the sights of the boats coming in and out!  There was one boat a schooner Nick said at least 75 feet...came in...Nick was gawking!!!

He wants to learn how to sail...Nicky, your father has to take some lessons from you....you are a good skipper!  Lets make a plan to do that sometime!

Well - after the snack & totally enjoying the sights around us - we walked over to the pennisula island to see what was there!

Looking back to the resto we just had our snack at~

We headed back driving through the cluster of villages and little alley's ways...and came across this van...and oh my can you believe it...Lookie here...a street name and town in Holland...oh my gosh...way out here on a island in Greece!  FUNNY!
...and then came back to Skala.  It was fun to have the wheels to see it all!

We got back to the room showered and rested and then around 8:30 we headed out for a light salad or so!  Again the atmosphere out was so nice...families out and about...everyone eating at the small eateries along the boulevard...a little train riding families around...two carriages - horse driven with lights on them - riding a couple around!  We sat for a few hours just relaxed and enjoying the evening!

Yep life on an island...LAZY!!!!! LAZY DAYS!
