On our last evening in Vienna we decided to go see the Danube River - so we took the Metro (underground subway) there & took one transfer to do so.
It is a very wide river - wider then we both expected! But then again...we know many people enjoy using the river for touring the beautiful castles and landmarks built along these rivers in Austria & Germany.
Such a beautiful church close by the river!
St Francis of Assisi Church
There was these very large swans in the river...so pretty!
All these tour boats parked along the docks...so many from Basel Switzerland, Amsterdam Holland and from Germany...all coming down the Rhine and connecting to this river...way cool! Sure would be enjoyable to do some day...a short week to see the sights along the rivers of Europe ~
We took a very long walk along the riverfront and then found another tram to bring us back to the hotel which was conveniently close to the train station we would be leaving from in the morning!
Our train would depart at 10 am - so we woke up, packed & headed down to a wonderful breakfast! The Accor Group do a good service for their guests and have a fantastic breakfast!
We crossed the streets with our suitcases and found out the platform we would depart on #8 and then sat down for a while to wait. We still can't get over these train stations how beautiful they are! It is a pleasant way to travel through Europe and the stations are so nice...shops, all kinds of eating & snack places...and downstairs it had clothing shops, a grocery store...
Very convenient!
The Salzburg train would be leaving at 9:56 - there you have it Platform 8!
Nick & I got on the train as soon as it arrived, so that Nick could get the luggage on board and have time to organize it (find where we can park "those BIG momma's!") and get a seat! The train was very nice...comfortable seating and enough leg room and overhead rack for the backpacks too!
As we headed out of Vienna - we started to go into the countryside...and I got excited!
We began to see lots of hills and beautiful Tyrolian styled homes..Farms and beautiful beautiful rolling hills!
Even the farms were manicured and tidy...such pride of ownership!
Oh it was a wonderful 3 hours train ride to Salzburg!!! We so enjoyed the scenery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you see how tidy the the little streets are and the meadows???? Houses have flowers hanging from their balconies....just darling!!!!!
We arrived in Salzburg...about 1:00pm....and it was the end stop for the train...so everyone got out!
Wow Nick - we are in Salzburg!
People travel here with their dogs, and bikes...and there is a elevator to get you down & out of the station! Very nice! We like!
Nick has me out of the train...to be on the receiving end of the luggage while he goes back in to fetch all the pieces - 4 total!
He has built up quite some 'muscle'.... my man! The conductor too passed one to Nick...nice!
Another beautiful & Large train station again!
Lots of people coming from many areas! And all going somewhere! Oh gosh what will Salzburg be like??????
Exciting!!!!
Outside our hotel we waited for a bus to take us into town...and we saw this family and asked where they were from?????? INDONESIA....of course! They were from Bandung...where my father has spent many years...and close to where Nick's father & my Opa is buried in the Dutch Cemetery.
It was so neat to chat for a little bit...Nick started right up with his bahasa Indonesian!!! They were a very friendly family & also were enjoying a wonderful vacation in Austria!!!! Selamat!
