A Day at Bart's boat in Nieuwkoop and around The Hague/Den Haag ~

Thursday ~  Big Day with Skyler!

We had the opportunity to baby-sit Skyler on Thursday...all day!  So Nick & I walked to Jas' house and there they were - Milou explained how to fold out the stroller and gave me some instruction and off she went to her job in Leiden with the train!  It was fun to fix her the warm cereal and take care of Skyler!  We took her to the local shopping area and she fell asleep in the stroller and then she woke up in the store and Skyler helped doing a little shopping with Oma...with the little shopping cart they have for the kids!  How fun!  We let her walk home from the stores and that was a good walk for her...so fun to walk hand in hand with my little Skyler...and she says "Oma what is this?  Oma wat is dat? Oma look there...Oma kijk is daar!  Oma what are you doing?  Oma wat doet U?
This Oma had a wonderful day and Opa too kept her busy with things...

Jas came home and Skyler was so happy to see her Papa!  He came home early because he was picking up a car he had just purchased!  A big hug for his little girl!!!

Skyler waited while Papa changed his clothes and off we went again~
We saw him drive up a bit later and there he was with the new car...Wow Jas nice looking from up here!!!  Gosh - naps & changing diapers and fixing snacks...yes I remember it well...and brought lots of good memories back to me from my boys!  So fun!  A mother stays a mother but just moves to the next position....grandma! OMA!!!

Friday~  Nick & I had a good rest and then woke up and decided to go see Tante Ada...my aunt on my mothers side!  We found out what bus to take Bus & Tram Routes The Hague
That was fun to try and figure out and off we went walking from Tineke my girlfriends house to the bus stop!

On a neon screen it tells you how many minutes it will be before the bus arrives....nice!  And there it was right on time!!!!
Beautiful bus...and we moved along nicely!  We finally came to the area where my aunt lives and she was waiting at the front door ~  Tante Ada - it was great to see her again after 2 years.  My mom's youngest sister is 84 years.

My aunt is in a wheel chair but is still in her own house.  She gets care through out the week and with cleaning & errands needed by Bianca who has been with her these past 7 years already!  We appreciate her help!!!

I called Edward my cousin and he said he would be right over!  Oh Edward how nice..and Coby how is she doing?  Before we knew it Coby his wife was there too!  Oh how special to see them again!!!

We had a great visit and Coby offered to give us her car for a week...Oh Coby really?  Yes they were heading to Spain for a week vacation and she would not be needing her car!  Oh how kind of them!!! Of course we will -
Edward & Coby met each other when they were so young...and here they are grandparents themselves and it is so fun to see one another again!!!  They have 3 children and they also came to visit us in Modesto many years ago!  Later they daughter Jaimy quickly came before she too had to pack & prepare for their vacation week in Spain with her parents & her family!  So sweet of Jaimy!!

We had a very nice visit at my aunts house and had a special time together sharing and talking about Mom too!  We will be back again soon!

Saturday Morning ~

Tineke & I walked her dog Ben and picked up some bread because Tineke's son Bob & Diandra would be coming for brunch!  Alright ...how great is that...so nice to see them again!
These Dutch bakeries are delicious...selling fresh bread and all kinds of buns...and pies and cakes and fruit cakes...oh my...just LOOK AT THIS WINDOW!!!!!!!!!  Can you believe it????!!!!!!

 LEKKER!!!!!!

People pull a number and quickly they are served...all heading home for breakfast with the family - fresh bread warm from the oven!

Ben -Tineke's Lab loves to look out the window at passerbyer's!  People stop to smile and just stand there and look with their kids or just admire him!

He loves the attention too!  He just lays his head on the pillow and lets them smile!

Tineke Pronounced tin a ka
I had my hair done. at the Tineke's shop close by ..and wanted to show it off...
can you tell????

Here is Tineke's son Bob and girlfriend Diandra...so wonderful to see them again!!!

I have known Bob since he was born!  How special to see the family again!

Diandra & Bob helped us search the Net regarding a place to rent...they showed us all kind of sites to look up!!!! Hey thanks you two...you have been a great help!!!

We then had the plan today to go to Tineke's friends houseboat...Bart has this adorable place on the water way into the farmland - just beautiful!  And the ride there was great!!!
We experienced a bridge rising..up for a boat to pass...how fun!  So many of these in Holland!!!

Love Love Love it!!!
The scenes along the way...just gorgeous....farms and darling houses with thatch roofs~ all made reeds along the water in Holland~Thatching Roofing

Single lane roads along the waterways...with a small pass/park lane for on coming traffic!

We just loved the drive to Bart's boat...in Nieuwkoop ~  What a lovely ride it was!

We followed Tineke with our barrowed car...

We arrived and parked the car and there was Bart waiting to meet us!
 Hey Bart!

The houseboat was so nice...Living and Dining Area - Open Kitchen and one bedroom...with lots of windows
- Ben knew his way around and there he was!

 A darling kitchen...overlooking the water...nice!

We sat & had some expresso and a goodie and just looked out that window and view!  Wow how nice to sit and see all that out there!

We then went for a ride in the boat...Tin packed some pillows, crackers & cheese and some glasses of wine and off we went for a ride ~  So nice!!! We felt so spoiled!!!

A Glass of white wine & a cracker with Brie....and being with my girlfriend Tin - how nice is that!
And the Dutch flag waving behind us!

For a cooler day Bart puts up the cover to break the wind a bit!

Bart & Nick enjoyed talking "boats"
Tineke served us crackers with brie...and a nice glass of white wine...we were spoiled!
 We saw kayakers.....
Darling homes along the way...oh just look at these......

The homes along the water are all well maintained and everyone has a comfortable seating area and picnic area all enjoying the Summer which is short in Holland!

Even today - it was cool and windy out there.  This week has been a change of weather here in Holland...some dark gloomy clouds - then rain - then Sun again!  Oh we need more Sun it is only August!!!
But with some warm jackets...we had a wonderful boat ride...oh how we loved it.... boating along the Dutch water ways...

The Dutch cow...Black & White ~ So cute to see along the sides grazing~ They are fat & healthy looking!  Plenty to eat!!!

Nick enjoyed be "Captain" - he handled it well!

People come by and always wave & greet you "Goede Middag!" Good Afternoon!

A Sailing school with their boats this Saturday afternoon...such a cute sight!

.. then we saw a group of people that were evidently celebrating a Birthday.....

They had rented a barge with BBQ and then the whole gang ~ meets and they go down the waterways to find a spot to set up and enjoy a special time by the water!

What a great way to Celebrate!

Tineke told us about a rental close by....AirBnB ~  this house boat can be rented for 50 Euro per person - there is the tea pot...and the sign...

Wow pretty fun to stay on for a long weekend!

Very cute...with use of kitchen ~

Tin & Bart prepared a wonderful meal too...nasi goreng (friend rice) with sate' chicken marinated with peanut sauce...a real Indonesian meal...Chef Bart did a wonderful job and it was really tasty!

Any Indo blood in you Bart????
Our Host & Hostess served us and blessed us with a wonderful Day!!!

Sunday ~  We found a church this morning on the Net - Crossroads International Church and it was very close by Tineke's house!

Oh we had a wonderful morning & was blessed with sweet worship and a wonderful Word from Pastor Martijn from Crossroads Church in Amsterdam - he was a guest speaker!
We decided to take a little drive to Scheveningin where the pier is and the boardwalk!  It was a windy day but fun to walk around there - all so very familiar to me!
There was a band playing ~ people strolling on a Sunday afternoon with their families.

Even this elderly lady did a dance to the music...!

There was a antique market downtown ~
Hey There's the American Consulate - this is where I had to register myself each year back when I lived here in Holland many years ago!  The consulate is now totally safe guarded with metal fencing~
