We Had a Reunion in Holland with Kris & Lianne & Beppie From Salatiga to Zegveld!

We had a Reunion ~  What a Special afternoon we had!  Beppie was visiting her daughters in Leiden and would be coming by to see Kristian & Lianne and we thought that would be the "perfect" time for us to do so too...it worked out wonderfully!  So Nick & I too drove to Zegveld which is on the way to Utrecht - a small town close to Woerden.

Hey Beppie...how great to see you!  Lianne & Beppie had lots of hugs!  Oh such a treat to get together again since all being in Salatiga for that last year!

I had brought with me the well-known "Masion Kelder" hazelnut cake from the shop I use to work in when I was 19 years old...

....and Beppie said she thought it was VERY good...right Beppie????

Then Kris' parents came to visit Dirk & Anyla who live very close by...and also Lian' mother Gerdi ~ both parents had come to Indonesia to visit their children in that year and we too got to meet there there...so it was lots of fun to all see one another again!!!
Kris & Lian had a big lunch ready for us and we all sat down to enjoy a special time together!

After lunch they took us for a walk around the neighborhood!  Both Kris & Lianne were born in Zegveld and were neighborhood friends...just a few houses from one another!

How special ~

The streets are so tidy...and yards so pretty...
 Look Milou...does that look familiar?
The took us a stork park which is well known in Holland...in this little town!

 Zegveld Holland

The stork below had started a next right on top of this house...but he had made a big mess!

Here was a man on the roof..fixing the tiles up there...Be careful!!!!

All of us wearing jackets...Yes these people who have lived some time in Indonesia are still not use to the Dutch weather....Brrrrrrrrrrr!
We enjoyed our walk along the farm houses.

How about this front entry and bridge to cross over to your house??????? Adorable huh?

All of us had to laugh again together..."a inside joke"  where ever we got together the 5 of us for a motorbike ride in Salatiga - it would rain...and here we were in Holland reunited again...and guess what?  It began to rain - so we took cover at a old farm house and waited...OF COURSE! Like we had done before!  Ha!
You might be interested in this information...the town of Zegveld lies below the sea level (like so many towns are in Holland!!) but in Zegveld there is morass (a swamp land close to waterways) and so the soils is wet - Every 10-15 years there is a drop in the soil around the houses (the houses are built on strong stilts in the ground) but not the yards of course~ so every so many years they have to redo their yards because the tiles/pavers drop down...or sag.

Dirk & Anyla - Kris parents had their whole street redone by the city & it took a while with mud all around their house.  Once the pavers were laid again in the streets they could finally redo their yards again...a lot of work and usually the responsibility of the owner - to redo their yards!

Oh what a great afternoon we had seeing one another again!  Kris is starting up with teaching again - this time 7 & 8th graders.  Lian too is getting back into the work force again ~ and Beppie will be in Holland another 3 weeks before she returns back to Indonesia!
We said our good-bye's for now and headed through a darling little town called Nieuwbrug which had this draw-bridge that was still being used.  It had a one lane crossing - so the person there collected .50 Euro cents and let us pass over!  So cute...driving over the "Old Rijn" Old Rhine ~
